New Signing: Khruangbin
Houston/London based trio Khruangbin (translation ‘Engine Fly’ from Thai) are an intriguing proposition. The instrumental trio, fronted by the charismatic Laura Lee, create a versatile stripped back sound, influenced by soulful 70’s funk and garage rock mixed with Thai psych pop.
Their first full single; ‘A Calf Born In Winter’ – a poignant, lilting 3 and a half minutes, recorded in Texas hill country, on a farm, in a barn – released on Record Store Day 2014, having already featured on Bonobo’s recent Late Night Tales compilation.
Comparisons to the West Coast sounds of the Allah Las, Tommy Guerrero and The Triptides are not misleading but Khruangbin’s unmistakable eastern influence is what sets them apart. Find out more…
